Refresher/crash childbirth course in July?

Has it been so long since you gave birth to (or attended the birth of) your first child that you’ve blissfully forgotten all you ever knew? would you like a refresher? Or, are you due in the end of July or in August and you’ve missed the chance to sign up for a natural childbirth class? One of my previous students asked me to hold a refresher class in July. Time is running out… anyone up for a refresher class in July? Topics include: differences from first labor to second labor, reminder for birth partners of what to do during labor, coping with your older child during labor, newest research and information about immediate postpartum care, coping with balancing two children. Class will either be held on two weeknights to be determined. Right now I’m assessing interest. Class will be held at my home, in West Seattle. A $90 course fee includes my funky new self-published workbook and materials.

Note: this class is not going to totally prepare you for birth if you’re a first timer… but the workbook will go a long way to fill in gaps.

West Seattle breastfeeding class

I am pleased to offer a two-hour, hands-on, somewhat goofy but totally evidence-based and factual class for expecting couples. I really appreciate the presence of mom’s partner in the class, as the encouragement of a loving partner is one of your best predictors of breastfeeding success. I have taught breastfeeding classes at WIC offices, and have also taught classes on breastfeeding and nutrition and basic breastfeeding management at Bastyr University and at South Seattle Community College. It’s one of my FAVORITE topics to teach! The elements include: getting off to a good start after birth, managing the first week postpartum, coping with engorgement, what to do if your nipples are sore, and working and breastfeeding, and troubleshooting.
